Prayer can seem to be our approach to getting what we want.  We come by it honestly; children ask their parents for food.  We asked our spouse to attend to our needs, or we ask our co-workers to assist with a problem at work.  Each time we approach another party an ask for something to be done on our behalf and for our benefit, many times without a concern, if it truly benefits us.  Therefore, many times we approach God with the end in mind at the beginning.  We have already decided how the miracle needs to occur or what the resolution needs to be.  However, God asks us to "humble ourselves" which means to lower ourselves, lower our opinion of ourselves, or lower ourselves to the authority of another.  So let us begin humbling or lowering ourselves to God.  Admitting our need for Him and that God knows best.  Let's launch seeking what He wants to do in our lives.

“I pray because I can’t help myself. I pray because I’m helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn’t change God. It changes me.” C. S. Lewis
